I'm a huge listener to Rock and Roll. Given that I grew up with largely Gen X parents, here's a few bands and their albums that I personally like:

Pink Floyd

GENRE: Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock
DESCRIPTION: Pretty much my go-to band, a lot of my personal works had been inspired by these guys.
Favorite Song: Shine On You Crazy Diamond(1974)
Favorite Album: Division Bells (1994)

Although it the second album Produced by Guitarist, David Gilmour and it being the album before their hiatus, I honestly think that
this is the best album in Pink Floyd's Discography. The themes of communication and regret make this one of the most beautiful albums ever
made by one of Rock's famous Rock Band from Britain. Get it you nerds!

Rush

GENRE: Progressive Rock, Hard Rock, Alternative Rock
DESCRIPTION: The Trio of the Great White North! A personal favorite of mine next to Pink Floyd!
Favorite Song: Subdivisions (1982)
Favorite Album: 2112 (1974)

Imagine having your previous album fail commercially, confused that the audience aren't interested in just listening song with meaning to them
(Granted I wouldn't blame you when the audience is the baby boomers who are more busy fucking each other brains out while high and draft-dodging) and your record company says if the band is to survive financially, you must sellout and go radio rock, what do you do? I tell you what,
you double, triple, QUADRUPLE down and make what is arguably Rush's magnum opus: 2112!!

Based and Inspired by the novel Anthem by the notorious Ayn Rand, it centers around the theme of Individualism in the face of collectivism, a theme that hauntingly reflects our current political climate, and the ultimate victory of Individualism. Set in the fictional totalitarian Solar Federation, the Earth is controlled by an Order of religious priests who have taken control of every aspect of life and made a collectivist utopia. Everyone forced to be same and goes to plan until one day, a farmer discovers an artifact that causes him to realize his own individuality and shatters his illusion of the collectivist utopia that he supposedly lives under. It's an amazing album and I encourage you to check it on your own time. Get it!

Camel

GENRE: Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock (70s), Pop Rock (80s and onwards)
DESCRIPTION: Not be confused for the cigarette brand nor that one artist known for that... Uh... "meme", they're a semi-obscure band from the United Kingdom, originally starting off with five members at the start. Andy Latimer, guitarist, flute, remaining as the sole original member of the five. They're mostly an instrumental band since there's very little music of theirs that feature lyrics.
Favorite Song: West Berlin (1984)
Favorite Album: Nude (1981)

Nude is a personal favorite of mine from their discography as not only as it tells a story which is typical of most concept albums, but also because it is based on an actual person. The story is about a soldier who is a direct reference to the man, Hiroo Onoda (of which the titular character "Nude" gets his name from) who is drafted into World War II for the Japanese Empire and sent to the Philippines Island where he was ambushed by allied troops and ends with being stranded and alone on the island. It's a very minimalist album due to Camel not really focused on lyrics but rather the music alone. I would still implore you to give the album a listen and the band a good listen as well!

Men At Work

GENRE Pop Rock, Reggae Rock, New Wave
DESCRIPTION: Coming from the Land Down Under, these guys while short lived in their active years, are some the best music I ever listened from their popular "Down Under" to songs such as "Overkill", "It's a Mistake", "Highwire"... etc. In an age where Metal was all the rage, these guys provided a fun if not silly series of songs and music video to brighten the day.
Favorite Song: High Wire (1982)
Favorite Album: All of them

(Just putting the Cargo Album here cuz image)
Now this is stretching it but really when you look at their discography, they only made three original albums with the rest just being remasters or live albums. They're a good band, fun to listen while working or traveling about. Go get their albums you nerds. You owe it to the Aussies.

And with that those are my personal favorite bands. I know the thread also includes "Metal" as well but it's more or less hard for me to get into Metal to be quite honest but I know there are people who are metalheads so here's a thread provided for them post and discuss about albums and bands they like. Enjoy!
